Experience Belize from February through May or November-December and enjoy perfect beach-lounge weather, marine reserve exploration and mountain hiking adventures.
January is at the peak of tourist season with moderate temperatures and minimal precipitation, as well as cool northern “norte” winds helping create calm waters that provide ideal diving and snorkeling conditions.
Rainy Season
Belize, being a tropical destination, experiences two seasons: wet and dry. The wet season typically runs from June through November and features increased rainfall with occasional short but heavy showers; average temperatures remain high; however cooling sea breezes and humid rainforest air help alleviate its heat.
September and October are Belize’s wettest months, when rain falls daily with short, brief storms that typically don’t interfere with daily life or disrupt activities. Hurricanes can still pose a risk; however, Belize tends to be less vulnerable than other Caribbean destinations and therefore risk of hurricanes or tropical storms generally remains low.
January marks a period of transition between wet and dry seasons in Brazil, when temperatures are warm and humid and northern “norte” winds bring clouds with occasional showers of rain. January can be ideal for hiking through jungle trails and watching out for migrating birds.
February is an ideal month to visit Belize as the wet season winds down. Average temperatures remain high, but rainfall levels begin to lessen and humidity levels decrease more quickly than later in the year. Plus, it’s lobster season so you can taste local delicacies across the country!
March through May are prime months in Belize for guaranteed sun and fun, as the temperature is hot and humid but offset by ocean breezes and plenty of sunshine. March-May also offer excellent climbing conditions on some of Belize’s tallest mountains such as Doyle’s Delight and Victoria Peak, giving visitors plenty of chances to discover its majestic landscapes.
June is when the rainy season truly starts in Belize, though rainfall amounts don’t compare with that seen elsewhere in the world. Hurricane season also starts here, although not as frequently as it does elsewhere such as Florida or other Caribbean islands; nonetheless it is wise to invest in travel insurance just in case something does hit while visiting. Beach lovers might prefer visiting Placencia instead of Cayes during this period as its rainfall levels tend to be reduced significantly.
Dry Season
Belize experiences comfortable temperatures during its dry season. Coastal areas benefit from cool breezes from the Caribbean Sea which help reduce humidity rates while inland jungle regions and mountainous regions such as Mountain Pine Ridge also experience cool conditions.
Visitors to Costa Rica during the dry season can expect a high level of sunshine and relatively few rainy days; rainfall has decreased by as much as 40% and usually amounts to no more than five inches monthly. Though rain may still fall occasionally, storms typically do not occur along with heavy winds or lightning strikes that disrupt life on land.
January and February offer milder temperatures, making them the ideal time for outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking along the country’s coastline or exploring its reefs. Foodies will find an abundance of lobster, fish and tarpon available.
Belize experiences its warmest months from March to May, where humidity remains very high but can often be relieved by ocean breezes or frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Furthermore, sun shines for most of each day, drawing both locals and visitors alike onto its beaches.
June and July bring increased rainfall with predictable morning showers and occasional night thunderstorms, Atlantic hurricane season begins (though Belize tends to avoid tropical storms more readily than some Caribbean destinations). Lobster season reaches its pinnacle, while grand slam fishing season brings permit, bonefish and tarpon into Belize waters.
October through November is typically warm and sunny with lower rainfall than other times of the year, making this an ideal time for jungle tours or trips to explore Mayan ruins. Prices tend to be at their lowest all year.
Winter in Belize runs from November to mid-January, providing the ideal time for exploring its lush jungles, ancient ruins, and vibrant coral reefs. Additionally, cruise lines often choose Belize during this season for their voyages.
High Season
Belize’s peak travel season runs from late November to mid-April, coinciding perfectly with winter temperatures in North America and Europe. This period offers the driest conditions with beaches at their most glorious and attractions experiencing their busiest periods – prices tend to increase accordingly so booking ahead can save both time and money!
Belize’s wet season runs from May through November, with less frequent rain between these months. Many visitors find this to be the ideal time to visit, with its lush rainforests, exotic wildlife, and scenic rivers at their most stunning during this season.
However, tours and activities may be interrupted by rainy conditions; for instance, choppy waters can make snorkeling and caving experiences more difficult, and even scuba diving could be affected. Luckily, the Belize government has implemented an advanced warning system to inform visitors of any changes to conditions.
January temperatures begin to dip as rainy season gets underway, making this month more pleasant than December with less tourists visiting and an average daily temperature of approximately 82 Fahrenheit or 28 Celsius.
February is an ideal month for travelers looking for the best of both worlds: tropical weather with low rainfall. Additionally, February offers one of the cheapest times to visit Belize as it falls well before its busiest periods such as Christmas and New Years.
March and April represent the peak of dry season, offering perfect beach weather with clear blue skies – ideal conditions for snorkeling, scuba diving and boat excursions along coastal areas or islands.
By June, the rainy season had begun to dissipate; some months experienced no rainfall whatsoever during this period. Rainfall continued its decrease throughout September before rising again again during October – though hurricanes can strike at any time, they are most likely in August-October when conditions are wetter.
Low Season
Belize’s dry season stretches from December through May and tropical rains that contribute greatly to its landscape are less frequent, while there is far less tourism compared to peak season; visiting during these months provides visitors with a more tranquil experience at popular archaeological sites and jungle expeditions.
Low season offers perfect temperatures and sunny skies for enjoying beach getaways or rainforest adventures without crowds of travelers. Furthermore, tourists can take advantage of Belize’s incredible discounted rates for accommodations and tours during this period.
As summer comes to an end and the wet season begins, humidity levels increase significantly. Tropical rainfall begins in earnest but usually only lasts one or two hours per storm – making this experience much more pleasurable than many people might imagine! Plus the wet season brings beautiful lush green scenery, as well as active wildlife which are more readily spotted than during other times of the year.
From August to October, rainfall becomes heavier without significantly hampering activities. It is important to keep in mind that these months comprise Belize’s participation in Caribbean hurricane season; thus, it is prudent to remain alert for weather warnings and have an insurance plan ready.
November is an ideal month to visit Belize as it coincides with winter in the Northern Hemisphere and prices begin to decline, drawing tourists back home for holiday festivities.
As we enter into the holiday season from late November to mid-April, Belize becomes especially busy during Christmas and Easter. Families with young children especially can take advantage of this time for an enjoyable vacation to Ambergris Caye beaches and jungle exploration in Belize. However, remember this season will also be very busy among locals, so traffic increases at restaurants and tourist attractions with increased crowds also expected in hotels at this time. Advance booking may be necessary at hotels during this period.
